Harry Styles has sent out a not-so-subtle message to his detractors after causing a stir with his Vogue magazine cover photo.

Last month, the singer made history as the first man to land the cover of the iconic American fashion magazine, posing for photos in a tuxedo jacket and Gucci dress.

And while Harry’s fans and peers were loving it, certain right-wing critics were less enthusiastic, including US pundit Candace Owens, who commented at the time: “Bring back manly men.”

Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like the former One Direction singer is letting the criticism get him down.

On Wednesday, Harry shared a new picture taken by photographer Parker Woods, which showed him sporting a pale blue frilled jacket while, naturally, eating a banana.

Echoing Owens’ remark in the caption, he cheekily wrote: “Bring back manly men.”

Discussing his approach to fashion during his accompanying Vogue interview, Harry said: “Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with. What’s really exciting is that all of these lines are just kind of crumbling away. When you take away ‘There’s clothes for men and there’s clothes for women,’ once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play.

“I’ll go in shops sometimes, and I just find myself looking at the women’s clothes thinking they’re amazing. It’s like anything – anytime you’re putting barriers up in your own life, you’re just limiting yourself.

“There’s so much joy to be had in playing with clothes. I’ve never really thought too much about what it means—it just becomes this extended part of creating something.”

His Vogue cover wasn’t the first time that Harry sparked conversation with a magazine shoot in 2020, though.

Earlier in the year, the Lights Up singer appeared to break the magazine Beauty Papers’ website when he posed for them wearing fishnet tights and, well, not much else, to be honest.
