Walkers Crisps, Monster Munch and Wotsits Crisp Multipacks Will Contain 30% Less Plastic

Walkers hasn’t had an easy time of it lately, with campaigners protesting the fact its crisp packets aren’t recyclable by posting empty packs back to its head office.

But the crisp giant has now announced it will reduce the amount of plastic from certain multipacks by 30 per cent. A spokesperson for parent company PepsiCo told business magazine The Grocer that it would reduce the outer packaging on multipack bags of Walkers, Monster Munch and Wotsits from March.

This latest commitment builds on plans to role out hundreds of recycling points across the UK by the rest of the year.

Walkers has faced the wrath of protesters because its crisp packs aren’t currently widely recyclable in normal household bins as they are made from more than one material.

Campaigners from petition site 38 Degrees encouraged Walkers customers to post photos of themselves posting empty crisp bags back to the company as part of a #PacketInWalkers campaign.

Royal Mail waded into the debate, urging people to put the packaging in envelopes instead of just chucking them in letter boxes.
