Lady Gaga To Follow ‘A Star Is Born’ With Broadway Role, According To Reports

Lady Gaga is to follow her recent stint in ‘A Star Is Born’ with a turn on Broadway, according to reports.

The ‘Bad Romance’ singer is thought to be joining a new revival of ‘Funny Girl’, in the lead role of Fanny Brice, while Rosie O’Donnell will play her on-screen mother.

According to the Daily Mail, Rosie told an audience in New York over the weekend that they were both being lined up for the production, which first opened on Broadway in 1964, with Barbra Streisand in the lead role.

Barbra went on to appear in the big-screen adaptation of the musical, for which she won an Oscar, as well as the West End production of ‘Funny Girl’ in 1966.

HuffPost UK has reached out to Lady Gaga’s spokesperson for further comment.

Rosie O'Donnell claimed she'll co-star in the production of 'Funny Girl'

‘Funny Girl’ recently enjoyed a stint in London’s West End, starring Sheridan Smith and Darius Campbell, which toured the UK last year.

Gaga’s rumoured ‘Funny Girl’ role would mark her first foray into theatre acting, having previously won a Golden Globe for her leading role in the fifth series of ‘American Horror Story’, subtitled ‘Hotel’.

Coincidentally, Barbra Streisand also previously appeared in a remake of ‘A Star Is Born’ in the 1980s, while Gaga’s current turn in Bradley Cooper’s new version of the film has already generated a lot of Oscar buzz.

If she does manage to bag her first Academy Award in 2019, ‘Funny Girl’ could help her inch even close to that coveted EGOT status, with an impressive six Grammys already to her name.

She’s also been nominated for three Emmys, for her ‘Monster Ball’ and ‘Cheek To Cheek’ live specials, as well as her 2017 Super Bowl halftime performance.

Lady Gaga’s first residency in Las Vegas, ‘Lady Gaga Enigma’, opens in December, with legs in January, June and October 2019.
