Ariana Grande has announced she intends to “take some time” out of the spotlight, after a difficult two years.
The ‘God Is A Woman’ singer had initially been scheduled to attend Monday night’s Emmys, alongside fiancé Pete Davidson, whose show ‘Saturday Night Live’ was nominated for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, which it ultimately won.
However, prior to the ceremony, a representative for Ariana disclosed that she would not be attending the event, following the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, with Pete also choosing to remain at her side.
Her spokesperson told People: “Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight. Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”
Sharing her plans for the immediate future, Ariana’s rep added: “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend.
“She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
Ariana paid tribute to Mac Miller over the weekend, with an emotional post on her Instagram page, a week after first sharing a photo in his memory.
She said: “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times.
“I’m so mad, I’m so sad I don’t know what to do. You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you’re okay now. Rest.”
Ariana and Pete began dating earlier this year, and announced their engagement shortly afterwards.
