Alan Carr has shared new details about his recent wedding, telling how he and husband Paul Drayton were married by his pal Adele, with the ceremony taking place in her back garden.
The comedian married his long-term partner back in January, and revealed that when he first told his A-list pal he was engaged, she was adamant that she hold the ceremony at her house.
Speaking on ‘The One Show’ on Monday (2 April), Alan explained: “We’ve known her for ages and when we told her we were getting married she said, ‘Can I please plan the whole day for you?’
“We go in there and there’s a grand piano with a man playing ‘Ordinary People’ and then she sang our songs with the first dance. It was absolutely amazing.”
Expressing his gratitude, Alan added: “I can never repay her. She’s a one off. As we all know, she’s just the best.”
Then, during an appearance on ‘This Morning’ on Tuesday, Alan confirmed that not only did she plan, host and sing at the wedding, she also married the pair, after getting ordained especially for the occasion.
“She got ordained and she married us,” he said. ”She is the kindest, most sweetest.
She sang my first dance. It was the best day of my life.
“She’s the loveliest person going. What you see is what you get. Simon her lovely partner [too]. It was lovely.
“I just want to tell everyone. She won’t say because she’s so private. Flowers, three-course meal, she just planned it all. It was the best day of our life,” he added.
Alan and Adele have been friends for years, although he downplayed how close they were during an interview in 2016.
“The papers like to think that we’re more friendly, we are friends but we ain’t bessies,” he commented. “People just imagine us down at the Dog and Duck having a pint. I see her three, four times a year.
“I think she’s friends with Beyoncé, Jennifer Lawrence, she must be pulling her hair out because they keep mentioning me. I love her but we’re not bessies.”
Paul proposed to Alan while they were enjoying some time off in Lombok in 2016, though he later confessed he almost ate the engagement ring, which had been hidden in a dessert.
He told The Sun: “I was like, ‘‘Oh my God, a filling’s come out, just my luck on holiday’. I pull it out and it’s this ring and then the man on the organ starts singing ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’
“Then the chef, all the staff came out and the manager and sang ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’, but they didn’t know the next lyric, so they just sang, ‘Can you feel the love tonight? Can you feel the love tonight?’
“So it was my idea of hell, but of course I said yes. My life is a roller coaster, like Ronan Keating says. It’s really nice.”
‘This Morning’ airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
