What The Papers Say – March 20

The news that Ant McPartlin is stepping down from his television commitments following his arrest on suspicion of drink-driving makes the front pages on Tuesday.

The Daily Mirror leads with a picture of the Saturday Night Takeaway star moments after his Mini was involved in a crash in London. It reports that the 42-year-old has checked back into rehab and that this week’s episode of Saturday night Takeaway has been cancelled.

The Daily Star and The Sun lead with the same story, with the latter reporting that Ant’s presenting partner Declan Donnelly is said to be “gutted”.

A picture of Anna Campbell is featured on the front of The Times. The 26-year-old became the first British woman to die fighting with Kurdish forces in Syria.

Ms Campbell is also pictured on the front of the Daily Telegraph, alongside a story that Prime Minister Theresa May is facing a backlash over “abject betrayal” of Britain’s fisherman after an agreement was reached on a transition deal which will allow talks on the future trade relationship between the UK and the EU.

Staying with Brexit, the Metro calls the agreement a “breakthrough”, saying Britain and the EU have hailed the “decisive step”.

And the i called it a “big step” towards easing Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.

The Guardian leads with allegations against data firm Cambridge Analytica, saying it “boasted of using honey traps, fake news, campaigns and operations with ex-spies to swing election campaigns around the world”.

Uber suspending its self-driving car tests after a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian leads the Financial Times.

And the Daily Mail reports on a potential cure by UK doctors for age-related macular degeneration, the most common cause of blindness.
