At least two people have been killed in Italy after a commuter train derailed near Milan, city officials have reported.
Television footage showed fire brigades trying to free people trapped inside the wagons of the train, which were bent by the impact.
A Milan fire official told Reuters there are “between three and five dead in the accident from what we know at the moment”.
State train firm Ferrovie dello Stato said in a statement a regional train, operated by Trenord, derailed at the Pioltello Limito station, some 40 kilometers from Milan.
It did not give details about potential casualties.
Meanwhile, TV channels RaiNews24 and SkyTG24 reported that at least two people had been killed and 10 seriously injured, citing emergency services.
According to the BBC, the cause of the crash – which happened just before 7am local time – is not yet clear.
Trains between Milan and the nearby city of Brescia have been stopped following the incident.
