1. The UK government are looking into a tax on single-use plastics.

Chancellor Philip Hammond has called for “evidence” to support that a tax on plastic packaging, takeaway cartons and other disposable single-use plastics would reduce the levels of waste pollution in our oceans.

2. Trump has put his decision to reverse elephant import law “on hold”.

After a huge backlash against his move to reverse the Obama administration’s ban on importing elephant hunting trophies, Trump has announced (via Twitter) that this decision has been postponed.

Members of the Powering Past Coal Alliance, including France, Finland and Mexico, are hoping to end their use of coal before 2030. Key states such as China, the US and Germany have not yet joined.

The Golden State’s goal to use renewable energy for 50 per cent of its electricity by 2030 may be realised early. A new report shows that it could surpass this goal as early as 2020.
