Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor has cleared up rumours her character Daphne Bridgerton’s romance with the Duke Of Hastings has spilled over into real life.
In an interview with You magazine, the actor denied she is in a relationship with co-star Regé-Jean Page, who plays the Netflix period drama’s male lead.
“I’d love to say there was really something between us, but no. It has always been strictly professional,” she said.
“There was so much pressure on us to get it right that it was all about the work. We have a really professional working relationship. I’m glad for that, actually. It would be very complicated if it went further.”
“I always hear about people falling in love with their co-stars. It’s yet to happen to me, but I’m intrigued.”
Phoebe added: “People really root for us. We have to say we’re actors, we’re doing a job, there is something to be said for not spoiling the magic,” the star said. “But at a certain point, you have to say ‘no’.”
Regé-Jean previously addressed the rumours in a slightly more cryptic way in an interview with Access Hollywood.
“I think that everything you need to know is on camera. All the sparks that flew came off the beautiful scripts we were handed,” he said.
“So I think that the sparky words, scripts and material are more than enough.”
While Daphne and the Duke’s romance took centre stage in the first series of Bridgerton, focus will shift onto Anthony Bridgerton in the show’s second season.
It has also just been announced that Sex Education star Simone Ashley has been cast as the new female lead, Kate, who will catch Anthony’s eye.
Filming on the second series of Bridgerton is set to begin in the UK this spring.
Bridgerton is streaming on Netflix now.
