There’s no disputing Elton John’s considerable talents, but impressions evidently aren’t one of them.
The music legend is the star of a new NHS video urging people to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
In the 90-second clip Elton “auditions” for a part in the ad to encourage people to get the jab.
After several attempts at introducing himself (“too showbiz”), Elton is then asked by the director to do his “Michael Caine impression” with comical results.
After Elton receives his jab, he begins to sing his 1983 hit, I’m Still Standing, and with several takes in the bag the director tells the star: “Thanks, Elton, we will let you know.”
Elton, who has sold around 300m records, replies: “Well at this short notice you won’t find anyone bigger.”
The video then cuts to the actual Michael Caine having the vaccine, pointing out that it “didn’t hurt” before adding: “Not many people know that”: a reference to one of his famous catchphrases.
Lights, camera, vaccine! 🎬
Thanks @eltonofficial and @themichaelcaine for encouraging people to get the #COVIDVaccine. (Sorry it didn't quite work out, Elton.) 😬 pic.twitter.com/m0BIzKIu1b

Speaking about his involvement in the ad, Elton said: “I wanted to take part in this film to help show people the benefits of getting vaccinated and how it helps protect ourselves and the people we love.
“The more people in society who get vaccinated, the more chance there is of eradicating the national Covid pandemic. It’s really important to know that the vaccines have all been through and met the necessary safety and quality standards.”
Elton and Michael aren’t the only high-profile stars who have received their Covid vaccination.
Sir David Attenborough, Sir Tom Jones, chefs Prue Leith and Mary Berry, football manager Harry Redknapp and actors Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen have all also had theirs.
