James Corden was on hand to offer some guidance to The Weeknd before his performance at this year’s Super Bowl – whether the singer wanted it or not.
In a sketch that aired on The Late, Late Show shortly after the Super Bowl, James was seen crashing one of The Weeknd’s rehearsals to give the chart-topping singer some performance tips.
“This year CBS is hosting the Super Bowl Half-Time Show, and I knew, sooner or later the network’s biggest star would have to pitch in and help out,” James says at the opening of the skit.
“Unfortunately, Young Sheldon doesn’t have a cell phone, he’s not allowed, he’s still a child. So when The Weeknd was really struggling with his big Half-Time Show performance, guess who he called?”
“I didn’t call anyone,” The Weeknd is then seen insisting. “The dude just showed up.”
James is then seen showing up to surprise The Weeknd while dressed in his signature red jacket, sunglasses and face bandages,
The host quickly takes over the whole session to offer dance tips (in fairness, a Super Bowl performance featuring “the sprinkler” would definitely capture our attention), singing pointers (he is a Golden Globe-nominated performer now, after all) and finally putting him through his paces with a fitness test.

The Weeknd capped a year of massive chart success by performing in the coveted half-time slot, with a set lacking none of the usual spectacle despite the limited attendance.
As well as delivering hits like Earned It, Star Boy and Blinding Lights, the Canadian star also ended up inspiring a hilarious new meme with his rendition of Can’t Feel My Face.
