The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has risen to 112,092 – an increase of 828 over 24 hours.
The number of deaths within 28 days of positive test has continued to trend downwards, but the latest toll means that 6,521 people have died over the past seven days alone.
Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 129,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.
The Department of Health and Social Care figures reveal that 18,262 new Covid-19 cases have been identified in the most recent 24-hour reporting period, bringing the nation’s total to 3,929,835 since the start of the Covid-19 crisis.
