Lady Gaga has explained the meaning behind the show-stopping outfit she wore to perform during Joe Biden’s inauguration.
On Wednesday, the Oscar-winning star was one of the celebrity guests during Biden’s swearing-in ceremony, delivering a stunning rendition of the US national anthem.
She also made an impression – as always – with her outfit, which included a navy blue blazer, giant red skirt and a gold dove brooch.
Posting a close-up photo of the eye-catching accessory on Twitter, Gaga wrote: “A dove carrying an olive branch. May we all make peace with each other.”
Shortly before taking to the stage, Gaga tweeted: “Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honour. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change—between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning.
“My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land.”
Gaga had been a vocal supporter of Joe Biden throughout his 2020 election campaign, having previously worked with him years earlier on a campaign to raise awareness of sexual assault on college campuses.
Last year, the Chromatica singer joined Biden on stage at his final drive-in rally in Pittsburgh, urging those in attendance to vote for him.
The inauguration also featured appearances from country musician Garth Brooks and chart-topping singer Jennifer Lopez.
J-Lo made headlines when she incorporated a quick blast of one of her own hits in a medley of This Land Is Your Land and America The Great, while Garth performed Amazing Grace, urging those in attendance – and viewers at home – to join in.
