US stars including Oprah Winfrey, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ariana Grande have been celebrating on social media following Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Since the ceremony on Wednesday, a number of public figures have been voicing their joy at seeing Biden and Kamala Harris sworn in as the new president and vice president, respectively.
Tweeting a photo of Harris taking her oath, talk show legend Oprah wrote that she is “in tears watching this extraordinary moment for women in the US and the world”.
Ariana – who voiced her support for Biden throughout his election campaign – excitedly wrote “WE DID IT JOE” on her Instagram story, while Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis shared a poignant post on the social media platform.
“I call this a beginning, a do over, a genesis,” Viola said, alongside a photo of Biden and Harris with their spouses. “I am ready to do better because I know better.”
There was also a lot of love on social media for Amanda Gorman, who recited a rousing poem during the ceremony, becoming the youngest person in history to do so at just 23 years old.
As well as Amanda’s poem, the ceremony featured performances from Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and country musician Garth Brooks.
Gaga delivered a stunning rendition of the US national anthem, while J-Lo performed a medley of This Land Is Your Land and America The Beautiful, with a quick nod to one of her own hits for good measure.
Towards the end of the proceedings, Garth sang Amazing Grace, urging those in attendance – as well as viewers watching at home – to join him.
