Jessie J has revealed she spent Christmas Eve in hospital this year after contracting Meniere’s disease.
The chart-topping singer told fans she woke up on Thursday morning unable to hear in one ear due to the condition, which can cause hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo.
As things worsened, Jessie said that she “couldn’t walk in a straight line”, and was taken to hospital in Los Angeles.
She told her fans in an Instagram live-stream (via The Sun): “I woke up and felt like I was completely deaf in my right ear, couldn’t walk in a straight line.
“Basically I got told I had Meniere’s syndrome. I know that a lot of people suffer from it and I’ve actually had a lot of people reach out to me and give me great advice, so I’ve just been laying low in silence.”
Jessie went on to say that she was happy to have gone to hospital at the time she did, as she has since been given medication that’s made her feel better.
“Now’s the first time I’ve been able to sing and bear it. I just miss singing so much and being around anyone,” she added.
“It could be way worse, it is what it is. I’m super-grateful for my health. It just threw me off.”
Jessie – who recently ended her relationship with on-off boyfriend Channing Tatum – is best known for hits like Price Tag, Do It Like A Dude and Domino.
Earlier this year, she returned to the judging panel of The Voice UK, where she joined the reality show’s junior spin-off.
Throughout her time in the spotlight, Jessie has spoken candidly about her past health issues, having previously suffered a minor stroke as a teenager.
