An explicit song branding Boris Johnson a “fucking c***” has become a late entrant into the race for this year’s Christmas number one.
The K**ts’ imaginatively-titled song Boris Johnson Is A F***ing C*** has officially cracked the festive top 10, according to the Official Charts Company’s latest update.
Currently at number six, the track sees the Essex-based punk group repeating the title phrase for the duration of the minute-long song.
Radio 1′s Chart Update presenter Katie Thistleton said last week that the song would not be played during the day on the station, due to having “so many bad words in it”.
Having been endorsed by Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker and former Sex Pistols musician Glen Matlock, the track is presently the UK’s second most-downloaded song.
However, while the song has surged in popularity in recent days, it’s still a long way behind frontrunner LadBaby.
The sausage roll-loving husband-and-wife duo are still on track to land their third Christmas number one in a row, with their song Don’t Stop Me Eatin’, a parody of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’.
As with their previous two chart-topping songs, proceeds from Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ are going towards the food bank charity The Trussell Trust.
Mariah Carey and Wham!’s festive classics All I Want For Christmas Is You and Last Christmas look set to occupy the number two and three spots this year, while Jess Glynne’s new cover of This Christmas is now at number four.
At the time of writing, Ed Sheeran’s surprise song Afterglow is at number 44, though this is “expected to climb further” before the 2020 Christmas number one is revealed on Friday afternoon.
Find out who has topped this year’s festive chart on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show airing at 2pm on Christmas Day.
