Clara Amfo has become the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The Radio 1 presenter had a tough night on Saturday, when she and her professional partner Aljaž Škorjanec landed at the bottom of the leaderboard for the second week in a row, following their Jive routine.
While the previous week, the public saved Clara from the dance-off, she wasn’t so lucky the second time around, ending up in the bottom two against Jamie Laing and his partner Karen Hauer.
After both couples performed for the second time in Sunday night’s results show, it was up to the judges to decide which pair to save, and it wasn’t a decision they found especially easy.
Craig Revel Horwood went first, saying that while both couples “danced with so much passion and love”, he wanted to save Clara and Aljaž.
However, Motsi Mabuse didn’t agree, pointing out that Clara had made a “mistake in the steps and in the timing”.
“I have to say this was one of the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Motsi said. “Based on that dance-off only I saw one couple that did their choreography and had all the steps correct and I saw another couple who had a mistake in the steps and in the timing.”
This meant the decision ultimately fell to Head Judge Shirley Ballas, who decided to save Jamie and Karen, as she felt they had more “conviction”.
Clara said: “I’ve had the best time ever, the best time ever and got a new friend for life. I’ve loved it, its one of the best things I’ve ever ever done, it’s been a dream come true.”
Aljaž then told his partner: said “I’m so happy we got to do Lady Clamalade, the Claraston – which I’ve never done before in my life – the Clarasambafo… you are a dream to be around, you’re a beautiful girl inside out, I hope that people at home got to see that.
“This series has been so special and it’s only because of you, thank you so much. I’m going to miss dancing with you.”
The remaining six couples will be back when Strictly returns on Saturday 5 December at 7.25pm on BBC One.
