Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson is to take an extended break from the chart-topping girl band for “private medical reasons”, it has been announced.
On Tuesday evening, Little Mix’s publicist Simon Jones tweeted: “Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons.
“We will not be issuing any further comment currently and ask media to please respect her privacy at this time.”
Earlier this month, Jesy was absent for the final of the group’s talent show The Search due to illness, and also missed the MTV EMAs, where bandmates Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock performed and presented as a three-piece.
The group later appeared during this year’s Children In Need charity telethon, again without Jesy.
Little Mix have just released their sixth album, Confetti, which reached number two in the UK.
The album was preceded by the singles Break-Up Song, Holiday and current hit Sweet Melody, which is currently at number three in the charts.
In support of Confetti, the band recently announced they’ll be touring the UK in 2021, where they’ll be supported by Since September, the winners of Little Mix The Search.
Little Mix were put together on The X Factor in 2011, having originally auditioned as solo artists, and went on to win the show, becoming the first ever band to do so.
Since then, they’ve topped the UK singles chart on four occasions – including with signature tracks like Black Magic and Shout Out To My Ex – and received two Brit Awards.
