Jamie Foxx Pays Tribute To His Sister, DeOndra Dixon, Who Has Died Aged 36

Jamie Foxx has said his “heart is shattered into a million pieces”, following the death of his sister DeOndra Dixon at the age of 36.

The Oscar-winning star announced that DeOndra had died in an emotional Instagram post, shared late on Monday night.

He wrote: “My beautiful loving sister Deondra has transitioned… I say transitioned because she will always be alive… anyone who knew my sis… knew that she was a bright light.

“I can’t tell you how many times we have had parties at the house where she has got on the dance floor and stolen the show… well I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on.”

Jamie added: “Tho my pain is unbelievable… I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me.”

The actor and singer also shared some of his favourite memories of DeOndra, who was born with Down’s syndrome, and later became an ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, including having her dance in his Blame It music video, and in a performance at the Grammys.

“Deondra you have left A hole in my heart… but I will fill it with all of the memories that you gave me,” Jamie added. “I love you with every ounce of me… our family is shattered but we will put the pieces back together with your love… and y’all please keep my family in your prayers.”

Following his post, Jamie received support from a number of his famous friends, including Viola Davis, Snoop Dogg and his former co-star Michael B Jordan, who wrote: “Here for you brother! No words can ease what you’re going through but the Jordans are here for you and your family!”

Jamie’s daughter Corrine Foxx also commented on the post, writing: “Our angel. Life will not be the same without her.”

I took this photo of my aunt Deondra the other day. We were sailing and the wind caught her hair just right. The sun snuck behind her just right. Then she turned to look at me and… for a split second, I swear I could see her wings. See, she was an angel on this Earth & she’d been sent to remind us all of the joy, brilliance and radiance of Life. In a blog on the Global Down Syndrome Foundation website, DeOndra said she had moved to California to live with her brother after finishing high school.

She wrote that she was “born to dance”, adding: “My brother has given me a chance to do some special things.”
