Kids of the 00s, prepare to feel old – Tracy Beaker is returning, but this time as a mum.
The character will return in a new CBBC series My Mum Tracy Beaker, which will follow the next chapter of her life as she tackles motherhood.
Actor Dani Harmer, 31, is reprising her role as Tracy, who she first started playing in 2002.
“I can’t wait to return again to the role of Tracy,” she told The Sun.
“I’m a fan myself and want to know what happens next and where this journey takes her. Being a mother, I know how much it changes you.
“So I’m looking forward to seeing how it has changed Tracy but still keeping her the same feisty, strong female lead that people know and love.”
Bosses are now casting for a young actor to play Tracy’s 12-year-old daughter.
The original CBBC series The Story of Tracy Beaker – based on the Jacqueline Wilson novels of the same name – originally ran from 2002 to 2005.
Spin-off series Tracy Beaker Returns aired from 2010 to 2012, while a separate series focusing on the new generation of kids in the care home, The Dumping Ground, ran from 2013 to 2018.
Dani appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, where she was paired with Vincent Simone and finished fourth in the competition.
She previously admitted she still gets stopped in the street by people who actually think she’s the fictional character.
She said: “I do have the odd occasion where people actually think I am Tracy Beaker in real life and the whole thing is real.
“And I just put it down to the fact that we really did a great job on that programme.”
