Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge And Andrew Scott To Reunite On New Series Of His Dark Materials

Fleabag stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott are set to reunite on the new series of His Dark Materials

The BBC and HBO’s adaptation of Sir Philip Pullman’s fantasy trilogy of novels is returning for a second series later this year, with a special treat for Fleabag fans.

During the His Dark Materials Comic-Con@Home panel, Andrew, who is set to play explorer Colonel John Parry, said: “My daemon is going to be played by somebody who is very close to me in real life, which is a young performer and writer called Phoebe Waller-Bridge.”

In the His Dark Materials universe, humans are joined by daemons, manifestations of the human soul that take the form of animals.

Andrew previously played Fleabag’s love interest, Hot Priest, in Phoebe’s hit comedy drama.

He added: “I’m really thrilled about that because it’s all about companionship and friendship and loyalty and that’s what I feel about Phoebe in my real life so it’s wonderful that it’s happening.”

A second series of the fantasy drama was announced prior to the first even airing last year, with it confirmed at the time that Andrew would be joining the cast.

A trailer for the new series dropped on Thursday night, giving fans a first look at the action in store.

It sees Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) open a bridge to a new world, and, distraught over the death of her best friend, Lyra (Dafne Keen) follow Asriel into the unknown.

In a strange and mysterious abandoned city she meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy from our world who is also running from a troubled past.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) is searching for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary.

It was previously revealed that season two will be one episode shorter than planned after the coronavirus pandemic halted filming on a standalone episode that would have focused on James McAvoy’s Lord Asriel.

His Dark Materials’ second series is set to debut on BBC One this autumn.
