Liam Payne has marked One Direction’s 10th anniversary by revealing the first message he sent to his dad after the band were formed.
On 23 July 2010, Liam and bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan were put together during filming of the X Factor bootcamp after failing to make it through to Judges Houses as solo artists.
With much hype on social media surrounding the band’s anniversary, Liam posted a screenshot of the text he sent his father telling him that he was now part of a band.
It revealed he sent it at 8.09pm on 23 July 2010, and it simply read: “I’m in a boyband.”
Sharing it with fans, Liam wrote: “What a journey… I had no idea what we were in for when I sent this text to my Dad ten years ago at this exact time the band was formed.
“Thanks to everyone that’s supported us over the years and thanks to the boys for sharing this with me.”
One Direction were put together by the X Factor judges alongside fellow girl group Belle Ami after a suggestion from guest judge Nicole Scherzinger.
They went on to become the most successful act the ITV talent show has ever produced, selling 200 million records worldwide and winning seven Brit Awards and six Billboard Music Awards.
To mark the anniversary, it was previously announced that fans would be gifted a brand new 1D anniversary website, a celebration video and new interactive playlists.
