The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has risen to 42,632 – an increase of 43 over 24 hours.

The figures cover the period up to 5pm on Saturday and do not include all deaths involving coronavirus across the UK.

Only those who had tested positive for Covid-19 are included, which means anyone who died with a suspected case would not be recorded.

The Department of Health and Social Care reported that another 1,221 people had tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the UK total to 304,331.

As of 9am on Sunday, a total of 7,890,145 tests have been carried out. The number of people tested will be significantly lower as many people are tested more than once.

Here’s a quick primer on what all the different numbers mean and how to understand them.
