A 13-day-old baby with no known underlying health conditions has died of coronavirus, as the UK’s death toll rises by at least 69.

The increase consists of 62 hospital patients in England, two people in Scotland and five hospital patients and care home residents in Wales. Northern Ireland reported zero deaths in the previous 24 hour period.

So far, no UK-wide figures from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have been released, so the total is taken from each nation’s individual reporting.

It brings the working total to 42,222.

But the government tally, when it is released later today, will be significantly higher as it includes deaths in care homes (missing from the individual figures in at least England) and the community (missing from at least England and Wales).

Here’s a quick primer on what all the different numbers mean and how to understand them.

NHS England confirmed that patients who died were aged between 13 days and 96 years old. Three patients, including the baby, were not known to have any underlying health conditions.

The data on deaths published by NHS England also accounts for 25 people who had previously been included in error.
