Exclusive: Global Media Staff Demanded ‘Racist’ Nigel Farage’s Removal From LBC
Nigel Farage has stepped down from his LBC radio show with immediate effect, the station has announced.
In a tweet posted on Thursday, LBC explained that the former Ukip leader’s contract was due to expire “very shortly” and his departure was agreed following discussions.
“Nigel Farage’s contract with LBC is up very shortly and, following discussions with him, Nigel is stepping down from LBC with immediate effect,” the post read.
“We thank Nigel for the enormous contribution he has made to LBC and wish him well.”
News of the problematic politician’s departure has been welcomed online.
James O’Brien, who also presents a show on LBC, tweeted: “We got our station back.”
Writer and broadcaster Daniel Storey wrote: “Fair play to LBC – Farage’s contract cancelled. Long, long overdue, but wrong righted.”
Speaking to HuffPost UK on Tuesday, fresh after getting the better of Farage on national television, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu expressed concerns about his place at LBC.
“Farage’s comparison of the Black Lives Matter movement to the Taliban makes his involvement with LBC incompatible and inconsistent with any stance of solidarity a national station like LBC claims to have with its Black audience,” she said.
Reacting to his resignation on Thursday, Mos-Shogbamimu tweeted: “Nigel Farage is out of LBC? Couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. We thank him for nothing.”
Journalist Aaron Bastani, posted a laughing GIF in response to the news.
Someone else wrote: “Good riddance. He’ll be on bloody statue vigilante watch now I bet.”
Bill Homewood tweeted: “So @Nigel_Farage is out, @LBC? Tell us now how you plan to win back a reasonable, compassionate and intelligent audience, having allowed this nasty, racist huckster a platform for so long?”
