Susanna Reid Shares Touching Message For Kate Garraway After Heatbreaking Good Morning Britain Interview

Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan had an emotional moment at the beginning of Monday’s Good Morning Britain, as they sent out a message to their colleague Kate Garraway.

On Friday, both Susanna and Piers tweeted their support for Kate, after her first interview about her husband Derek Draper’s fight against coronavirus live on GMB.

During the interview with Ben Shephard, Kate said that while Derek was now “Covid-free”, the virus had done so much damage to his body it wasn’t clear whether he would recover.

Susanna and Piers were both off on Friday, but during the most recent instalment of the ITV daytime show, they took a moment to reach out to their friend.

“We both watched her interview on Good Morning Britain on Friday,” an emotional Susanna said. “Millions of you watched as well as she told you and us all about the situation about Derek.

“Absolutely heartbreaking for the family and then she did an interview in The Sun over the weekend, and more details came out. So huge, huge love to Kate. You know, she’s going through hell, the family’s going through hell.”

She added: “There is hope still, of course. And she said they were hoping for ‘that miracle’ – and we’re all hoping with her. So huge love to Kate.”

Kate’s husband Derek has been in hospital since the end of March, and is currently in a coma.

She said last week: “Let’s look at some of the positives. He is now Covid-free. So he’s testing negative for the Covid virus. So the fight with the virus has been won and he’s still here.

“But it’s wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we don’t know if he can recover from that, basically.”

The couple, who are both 52, married in 2005 and have a 14-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son, Darcey and William.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday from 6am on ITV.
