Anyone who’s ever had a paper cut knows just how painful they are, so our deepest sympathies to Alex Jones who suffered one live on The One Show on Wednesday.
The presenter told viewers there was “blood everywhere” after slicing her digit open, but because of social distancing rules nobody could come to her rescue – not even co-host Alex Scott, who looked on helplessly.
The panicked 43-year-old presenter told viewers: “I gave myself a paper cut, and I’ve just got blood everywhere.”
After a few chaotic moments, Alex eventually found a tissue and it was on with the show.
What a pro.
The One Show was an early adopter of social distancing on screen after coming under fire from viewers in March.
Alex and her co-host Patrick Kielty ended up on opposite sofas after getting complaints about how close they had been sitting.
The One Show is filmed with just the hosts and a cameraperson in the studio to make sure social distancing rules are followed.
Last month, the BBC show received nearly 300 complaints about a home hairdressing segment it featured.
In the feature, broadcast on 24 March, celebrity hair stylist Michael Douglas gave viewers tips on how to cut and dye their own hair while in lockdown.
It led to 287 people contacting the broadcaster to complain about comments Michael made about home dye kits, which he said are “exactly the same stuff that gets used in salons”.
