Ben tweeted: “I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes.

“He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad.”

Jerry found fame as part of comedy double act Stiller and Meara, alongside his late wife Anne Meara, and became popular during the 1960s and 1970s.

They regularly appeared on Ed Sullivan’s US talk show, as well as having their own short-lived sitcom, The Stiller And Meara Show, in 1986.

In 1993, Jerry replaced John Randolph as George Costanza’s ill-tempered father Frank in sitcom Seinfeld, who was famed for his catchphrase: “Serenity now!”.

From 1998 to 2007, Jerry played Leah Remini’s father Arthur in all nine series of sitcom The King Of Queens starring Kevin James.

He also appeared alongside son Ben in Zoolander, with his final credited acting role being in the film’s 2016 sequel.

Jerry is survived by son Ben and daughter Amy, following wife Anne’s death in 2015.
