The number of people who have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus has risen by 649 in 24 hours.
It nudges the death toll over 30,000 – to 30,076, just 11 days after the UK passed 20,000 fatalities.
The figures were accurate as of 5pm on Tuesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the UK’s four devolved health authorities reported increases of 331 hospital deaths in England, 83 in Scotland, 14 in Northern Ireland and 21 in Wales. Those figures only involved confirmed hospital cases.
Of the new deaths announced in England today, 54 occurred on May 5, 121 occurred on May 4 and 28 occurred on May 3. The remainder stretch back as far as March 13.
The figures published today by NHS England show April 8 continues to have the highest number for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day, with a current total of 874.
Of the 22,049 confirmed reported deaths so far in hospitals in England of people who tested positive for Covid-19, 11,575 (52%) have been people aged 80 and over while 8,547 (39%) were 60 to 79.
