Craig Revel Horwood has shared his thoughts on how the BBC could get around this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, should social distancing restrictions still be in effect when it airs.
While multiple TV shows have suspended production as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the BBC has insisted it is still exploring options regarding how Strictly could still go ahead in 2020.
In a new interview on The Steph Show, long-serving judge Craig said: ”I’ve spoken to the producers and they’re working through absolutely everything to make it happen. I know, fingers crossed, it will.
“There is some way around it, there has to be. People love the show, it’s great entertainment… We really want it back and I know BBC One are working extremely hard to make that happen for the audience.”
In fact, Craig went on to say that thinking outside the box to meet guidelines might actually improve the show, referring to his recent judging stint on the Australian version of the show.
“When I did it in Australia, we managed to do it without a studio audience,” he explained. “And when people needed to be isolated, one couple, for instance, stayed in a hotel for two weeks and they performed live from the hotel rooftop.
“They set remote cameras up and it was absolutely amazing. There was a summer breeze wafting through their costumes and it was amazing. So there is a way around it, and it could be even more spectacular.”
Craig’s fellow judge Shirley Ballas assured fans last month that lots was being done behind the scenes to make sure Strictly went ahead as planned, saying: “Of course you definitely don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but I know they will definitely do everything in their power, if it’s conceivably possible, they will get that show on the air by September.
“So, it’s fingers crossed, let’s see how we go day to day. But I know they understand it’s an important show for the nation, and I think people will be ready for that come the winter months.”
The Steph Show airs at 12pm on Channel 4.
