Craig Revel Horwood is engaged after his boyfriend popped the question during a romantic holiday in Australia.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge, who has been dating Jonathan Myring for two years, revealed that his fiancé got down on one knee while they were both naked in the bath together.
Craig told OK! magazine: “Jonathan popped the question at the end of March on holiday in Tasmania and it was a total surprise – although I did almost ruin it all.”
Jonathan explained he’d initially planned a picnic by the river where they could look for platypus – and he was going to pop the question as soon as he spotted one of the creatures.
However, realising that platypus are notoriously elusive he changed his plan at the last minute.
Jonathan said: “In the end, I drew a salt bath, opened a bottle of champagne and we got in the bath together and I did it in there.”
Craig added: “It was very romantic. A naked proposal, on his knees in the bath. It was hilarious!…
“I said, ‘Absolutely not!’ [laughs]. And then I said, ‘Oh, alright then, I’ve changed my mind.’ I thought it was really sweet, actually, because Jonathan just said, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you.’
“It was absolutely perfect. I would much rather be in a bubble bath with champagne than climbing up a mountain to a waterfall anyway.”
The happy couple are now wearing matching engagement rings, which he had specially made.
“They’re wooden with gold bands through the middle,” Jonathan explained. “The wood is from the eucalyptus trees that grow around Ballarat, where Craig is from in Australia.”
The couple’s plans to throw a lavish engagement party for family and friends were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but they hope to still have a party once lockdown ends.
And although they have yet to set a wedding date, the couple – who met in 2018 while Craig was on the Strictly tour – have decided they will tie the knot at their country home in Hampshire.
Craig insists he doesn’t want “a big, splashy, massive wedding”, while Jonathan is looking forward to a “beautiful forest garden wedding”.
