Quiz Writer Eyes Sequel Set 20 Years After Charles Ingram ‘Coughing Scandal’

Quiz writer James Graham has admitted he’d up for a writing a follow-up episode about Charles and Diana Ingram’s life in the present day.

The three-part ITV drama concluded earlier this week, telling the story of the “coughing scandal”, which saw the Ingrams found guilty of cheating their way to the top prize on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

It’s since been reported that the couple is planning to appeal their conviction almost 20 years, with James admitting that if the case were to go to court, he’d be keen to pen a sequel to his hit drama.

He told The Sun: “It may go back to court, in which case episode four will be coming to you soon.

“It would be a ‘20 years later’ story, looking at what’s happened to that family in the intervening period.”

Fleabag's Sian Clifford and Succession star Matthew MacFadyen led the cast of Quiz

James added: “As someone who has been fixated on this story since he was 18 years old, I’ll be keen to see how their story unfolds.

“And I can’t pretend that I wouldn’t pick up the phone to ITV and go, ‘Do you think there’s something in this?’”

While Quiz left many viewers questioning the Ingrams’ sentencing, one man who was less than convinced by the drama was former Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant.

Michael Sheen as Chris Tarrant

Chris – who was portrayed in the series by Michael Sheen – recently told Radio X: “It is a drama, it’s not factual. So most of those conversations were made up because that’s what playwrights do.

“I mean the bottom line is he’s a rotter and a cad and a bandit and he was guilty. No question in my mind at all that he was guilty!”

Quiz is now available to watch on the ITV Hub.
