Peter Kay will return to our screens for the first time in two years as a presenter on the BBC’s upcoming Big Night In event.
The comedian has taken a step back from the spotlight in recent years due to “unforeseen family circumstances”, but did appear in two final episodes of his sitcom Car Share in 2018.
It’s now been revealed that he’s among the first slew of celebrities taking part in the upcoming Big Night In live show, which will celebrate the UK’s “resilience” and raise money for those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
He’ll be presenting from his home, while fellow comic Catherine Tate and Take That singer Gary Barlow are also among the first stars confirmed to be involved in the three-hour broadcast.
The Big Night In marks the first time that BBC charities Comic Relief and Children In Need have teamed up to put an event together.
Peter’s involvement was confirmed by Sir Lenny Henry, co-founder of Comic Relief, who said be hoped the night would “cheer people up in this terrible crisis”.
“And if people of course want to donate they can give a bit of money to help all of the vulnerable, smaller charities across the country who work with people of any age and any background who need it,” he continued. “And even if you can’t donate just watch, it’ll cheer you up.”
As with usual Red Nose Day and Children In Need telethons, we should expect live performances (direct from the artists’ homes) and “big surprises”.
There’ll also be the chance to win “money can’t buy” prizes and a celebration of the “incredible community heroes” who have helped out during the crisis.
The Big Night In will air for three hours from 7pm on Thursday 23 April.
