Skepta and Dave have led tributes to fellow musician Black The Ripper, following his death at the age of 32.
The rapper – whose real name was Dean West – began his musical career in the early 2000s at a young age, before becoming one of the earliest artists to be featured on the British urban music channel SB.TV.
As well as his musical output, West later became known for his activism work to push for the legalisation of marijuana in the UK.
This included posing for a selfie with a police officer while smoking cannabis and renting a pod on the London Eye in 2015 for himself and his followers to smoke in.
Music channel Link Up TV confirmed the news of West’s death on Monday, after receiving word from “someone close” to the musician. No cause of death was given.
Since then, a number of his peers have been paying tribute on social media, including grime stars Skepta and Dave.
“RIP legend,” wrote the latter on his Instagram Story, as well as sharing a photo of himself and West, who was smoking inside a clothes shop.
Skepta also paid his respects to his friend on Twitter, posting a photo of the two of them alongside the message: “Bless your soul my brudda.”
Krept, of musical duo Krept & Konan, songwriter and rapper Chip – who collaborated with Black The Ripper multiple times – and TV presenter Maya Jama were also among the famous faces who have shared their sadness over the news…
