EastEnders celebrates 35 years on the box this week.
To mark this momentous soapland milestone, bosses at the BBC show have lined up a heeeeuuuge storyline that sees one of Albert Square’s inhabitants killed off during an ill-fated boat trip along the Thames.
Previous anniversaries were marked with special live episodes, but the showrunners at the BBC soap said they wanted to do something different this year, which we’re sure has absolutely nothing to do with one of The Greatest TV Moments Of All Time.
Yup, not only do we have 35 years of EastEnders to celebrate, it’s also five years since the iconic line “How’s Adam?” was uttered, which resulted in these incredible reactions…
Jo Joyner – who reprised her role as Tanya Branning in the 30th anniversary special back in 2015 – later admitted she was left haunted by her gaffe when she mistakenly referred to Ian Beale by the name of the actor who plays him [Adam Woodyatt], saying: “How’s Adam?”
“I don’t need to (watch it) because people were sending me pictures of my face in shock every day on Twitter. So I’ve seen that image a few million times,” Jo told Radio Times.
“I’ve got a good sense of humour. But I couldn’t laugh about it until I’d gone out there the next night. I knew that people were watching to see if I messed up again.
“And to do that next episode live in front of 10 million viewers was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.”
We’re not sure if Jo’s been brave enough to watch the clip back yet, but to save her trawling YouTube, here it is one last time*…
*definitely not the last time.
Happy 5th birthday ‘How’s Adam?’!
