Oscars 2020: Josh Gad Couldn’t Resist A Dig At John Travolta As He Introduced Idina Menzel

It’s the Oscars. You’re about to introduce Idina Menzel to the stage for a performance. There’s no way you’re not going to make an “Adele Dazeem” joke, right?

Evidently Idina’s Frozen co-star Josh Gad feels the same way as we do, as revealed during Sunday night’s live broadcast.

Josh was tasked with introducing Idina’s rendition of Into The Unknown from the Frozen II soundtrack, which was nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars.

Idina’s performance saw her teaming up not just with Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora – who features on the track – but with a host of musical actresses from around the world, who voice Elsa in foreign language versions of Frozen.

As a dad to two girls and the voice of the American Olaf,” Josh said during his introduction. “The iconic and brilliant Idina Menzel, pronounced exactly how it is spelled, is our Elsa.”

Josh – of course – was referring to the infamous moment at the Oscars six years ago, when Idina last appeared at the Academy Awards, and was incorrectly referred to as “Adele Dazeem” by John Travolta, immediately before she took to the stage.

John later offered a rather bizarre explanation for the gaffe, claiming he’d been star-struck by Goldie Hawn, who he met backstage shortly before he was due to introduce Idina.

The Grease actor has since been at the centre of plenty more ridiculous awards show moments, struggling with the autocue once again at the Grammys in 2017 and almost presenting Taylor Swift’s award to a drag queen impersonator of the singer at last year’s VMAs.
