Katie Hopkins’ Twitter Reinstated Following Week-Long Absence

Katie Hopkins’ Twitter account has been reinstated after it disappeared last Friday, amid complaints from anti-racism campaigners

It had been confirmed the social media platform was conducting an investigation into the account of the former Apprentice star, who has become known for her pro-Trump, pro-Brexit and anti-immigration views.

The investigation was launched after Countdown’s Rachel Riley met with Twitter bosses to discuss both Hopkins’ account and that of George Galloway.

However, on Friday, Hopkins’ account, which has over 1 million followers, was live once again.

In a post announcing her return to the platform, she shared an accompanying video, in which she claimed reports that her account had been suspended was “fake news”.

She also dedicated the video to actor James Woods, who is a vocal Trump supporter.

A Twitter spokesperson previously confirmed the investigation into Hopkins’ account, saying: “Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us – abuse and harassment have no place on the service.

“We take enforcement action against any account that is violative of our rules – which includes violations of our hateful conduct policy and abusive behaviour policy.

“These rules apply to everyone using our service – regardless of the account involved.”

HuffPost UK has contacted Twitter for comment following Hopkins’ reappearance on the site.

Rachel Riley, who is Countdown’s resident maths expert, previously revealed her part in having Hopkins’ account suspended, writing:

She told her 654,000 followers: “I met with @Twitter yesterday with @imi_ahmed from @CCDHate and asked them among other things to review George Galloway & Katie Hopkins’s presence on their platform. I am pleased to see that action appears to have been taken!”

She added: “This is what happens when they have the #WillToAct.”
