Jennifer Lopez Takes Aim At Donald Trump In Behind-The-Scenes Super Bowl Video

Jennifer Lopez has taken aim at US president Donald Trump in a video captured moments before she took to the stage at this year’s Super Bowl.

On Sunday night, J-Lo teamed up with Shakira for a double-headlining show which saw them whizzing through a collection of their hits, but also ending on a political message.

Many viewers interpreted the show’s final section as a deliberate criticism of Trump’s immigration policies, with child performers singing in what appeared to be glowing cages, and J-Lo singing Born In The USA with the flag of Puerto Rico behind her.

In a behind-the-scenes video recorded shortly before she took to the stage, the Hustlers star leads a prayer circle, taking a few not-so-subtle swipes at the US leader.

All I want my girls, the little girls on stage with me and all over the world to know is how to use their voices and be proud of everything they are,” she told her team.

“Other people can try to build walls, keep us out or put us in cages. We are proud to recognise that all of us together are what makes this beautiful country truly great.”

Back in November, the singer and actress revealed that sending a message of hope at the Super Bowl was important to her, particularly “in Trump’s America”.

“I think it’s super important for two Latina women to be headlining the Super Bowl, especially right now in Trump’s America,” she told the Los Angeles Times.

“So for me, it was something that I was excited to do.”

It’s been a huge 12 months for Jennifer Lopez who, in addition to her Super Bowl show, was also critically lauded for her performance in the true crime dramedy Hustlers.

Her performance in the film even received a lot of Oscars buzz, and although she was ultimately missing from this year’s Best Supporting Actress shortlist, Jennifer did receive a nod at the Golden Globes earlier this year.
