Laura Whitmore has hit back at claims she is contributing to the climate crisis by jetting back and forth to Cape Town to host Love Island.
After a fan questioned why she was flying to Cape Town every week, the presenter said she only travelled to South Africa to film certain parts of the ITV2 reality show and said she was also an advocate of offsetting your carbon footprint.
The Twitter user posted the message this weekend, asking why Laura was “flying from South Africa every weekend to do her Sunday morning radio show then back to SA to present Love Island”.
Adding the hashtag “#ClimateCrisis”, they added: “Surely there are studios she could broadcast from in SA?”
However, Laura replied: “Love Island Aftersun is filmed in London – as all the guests are based in the UK. I’m only in Cape Town for the finale, public voting etc. And I’m an advocate of offsetting carbon footprint you’ll notice on my Twitter.”
Last month, Laura told HuffPost UK that she planned to off-set her time spent in the air.
The environmentally-conscious star said: “I’m going to plant lots of trees to offset my carbon footprint,” she says. “I’ve been looking at this website to see how many trees I need to plant – and it’s a lot!”
She has since tweeted about offsetting her carbon footprint and encouraged others to do the same.
