A British start-up has created a method of making fabric dye from microorganism which mimic the vibrant colours seen in nature. By taking the genes that give animals their wide array of colours, and inserting them in microorganisms, Colorfix believes it has reduced the water usage of a normal synthetic dying process by up to 90 percent.
