Brexit Timetable In The Run-Up To ‘Super Saturday’

This week is a crunch week in the Brexit process. No, really. This time it really is. Here is a brief run-down of what is set to unfold.

Monday

UK and EU officials picked up talks in Brussels capital in a last-minute push to secure an agreement.

Boris Johnson told his cabinet on Sunday there was now a “pathway” to a deal.

But No.10 cautioned Monday morning that while the negotiations were “constructive” there was still “a lot of work” to be done to reach an agreement.

Tuesday

Talks continue, although no telephone conversations are currently scheduled this week between Johnson and European leaders.

Wednesday

The final deadline for any deal to be done that can be signed off by EU leaders at the upcoming summit.

Downing Street has said the PM will have to decide by now whether to propose that parliament convene on Saturday to vote on any deal.

A “sitting motion” will need to be tabled by Wednesday at the latest so it could be voted on by MPs on Thursday.

No.10 said it had “not seen any proposals” for MPs to sit on Sunday as well.

Thursday – Friday

Johnson and other EU leaders meet in Brussels for the crunch two-day summit. It is the last scheduled meeting at which a deal can be agreed before the current exit day of October 31.

Saturday

MPs are expected to convene for an emergency sitting from 9:30am until 2:30pm to vote on any deal agreed between the PM and the EU.

Under the terms of the Benn Act, Johnson has until this date to pass a deal or be forced to ask the EU for an extension to Article 50.

It will be the first time the Commons has met on a Saturday since the the outbreak of the Falklands War in April 1982.

Pro-Remain MPs are also expected to try and stage a vote on holding a second referendum.

The “super Saturday” sitting in parliament will take place against the backdrop of a People’s Vote march in Westminster which organisers claim will be attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
