Shaun Ryder Was Once Fired As A Postman For Biting A Dog While High On LSD

Stories of postal workers being attacked by dogs are ten-a-penny, but you probably haven’t heard one like this before.

Shaun Ryder has revealed he was fired from his first job as a postman for biting a pooch while high on LSD.

The Happy Mondays star told The Sun he took revenge on an angry dog who’d gone for his heels during his first morning round.

Recalling the incident, which happened after he was promoted after four years of working as a post boy messenger at the age of 19, Shaun said: “Only fair. I did to the dog what it was trying to do to me.”

Explaining that it happened after he took the hallucinogenic drug LSD, he continued: “I had dropped a tab of acid, probably to relieve the boredom, then on the round as I was stepping up to be promoted to a postman, this terrier dog at a pub I delivered to, tried to attack me.

“So I thought I am not having this, I grabbed it, bit it on its head threw it down and gave a kick up the bum.

“As it went another post man who was passing in his van saw what happened and reported me. That was it, I was suspended but I had already started the band so I wasn’t too bothered.”

Shaun was speaking about the moment as he gears up for a new Hollywood film about his childhood.

The musician will be played by former Skins actor Jack O’Connell, who also starred in Angelina Jolie’s blockbuster movie Unbroken.

The as-yet-untitled film will be based on his 2011 biography Twisting My Melon, and focus on his early romance with his wife, Joanne.

Speaking to The Mirror, he confirmed it would not be about his hell-raising antics, saying: “This ain’t gonna be any old film about sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll – that would be too predictable and boring.”
