ITV has revealed it is launching an investigation following an altercation at this year’s TV Choice Awards.
Emmerdale actor Asan N’jie – who plays Ellis Chapman in the ITV show – is alleged to have sworn and thrown punches at fellow soap star Jamie Lomas, best known for his role in Hollyoaks.
N’jie was removed from the event by security shortly after the incident, which took place after Monday night’s ceremony.
A representative for ITV has said they are now set to look further into the matter, and will be holding conversations with the actor about the incident “in due course”.
They said: “We are extremely concerned to hear about an incident at last night’s TV Choice Awards involving one of Emmerdale’s cast.
“Obviously we will be investigating and talking to the actor concerned in due course.”
N’jie was among the night’s nominees, having received a nod in the Best Newcomer category for a storyline in which his character was stabbed, though he lost out to EastEnders newbie Kara-Leah Fernandes.
He was also present in a cast photo taken with a number of his fellow Emmerdale co-stars, shortly after the long-running show was awarded Best Soap.
It’s fair to say that this year’s TV Choice Awards were particularly eventful, with Springwatch presenter Chris Packham being booed by the audience when he called for I’m A Celebrity to stop “abusing animals”, shortly after the reality show picked up an award.
Controversial Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan also laid into his competitors at This Morning after they won the Best Daytime category.
