However, Miriam’s husband Daniel Cuerv has now told of how he suspects foul play and that her death was made to look like suicide.

He explained to MailOnline that on the day of her death, she had called from Mexico saying she was vomiting blood and later went to hospital to seek medical attention.

“She called me again before leaving the hospital at 12pm and that was the last time we spoke,” Daniel said.

Miriam was found dead at her home in Hermosillo later that day.

Daniel claimed an unknown male had called him when he was trying to arrange his wife’s funeral back in New York and said: “Don’t come back to Mexico or we’ll kill you too.”

He said he was “very suspicious” after later finding out her body had already been cremated, leaving no opportunity to perform an autopsy.

There’s Something About Miriam aired in Australia in 2004 and featured six men who competed for her affections.

At the end of the series – moments before the winner was announced – Miriam told the men she was transgender.

The contestants all later sued production company Endemol for conspiracy to commit sexual assault, defamation and personal injury, claiming to have suffered “psychological and emotional damage”.

They eventually settled for an undisclosed fee, reported to be as much as £500,000 each.

The series was screened on Sky1 in the UK, while Miriam went on to appear as a guest on Big Brother Australia in 2004.

On 25 February, Miriam’s friend Jeanett Ørtoft paid tribute her, sharing pictures on Facebook.

She wrote: “RIP, dearest Miriam. The news about you been taken away from this world far too early and in this way broke my heart and left me in shock and tears. You made a huge different for me and so many other people around this planet, that you made significantly more colourful. Your life was too short, but you sure made it remarkable.

“I feel deeply grateful that you let me into your heart, mind and life, that was all outstanding! Thanks for all our great memories that will always stay with me. We had plans about creating more this year, and I can’t believe I will never see you again. At least not on this side. You were the shiniest star on earth, now you’re the most shiny in heaven. Condolences to all your beloved ones.”
