Catherine Tyldesley is the fifth celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The actress is best known for playing Eva Price in Coronation Street from 2011 to 2018.
Speaking about her forthcoming stint on the dance floor, Catherine said: “I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’m a huge fan of the show.
“It’ll be my biggest challenge to date as I’m not much of a dancer, but I’ve always wanted to learn the skill and the time feels right! I’m nervous as hell but super excited to work with such talented professionals. Hold onto your jazz shoes… mine is sure to be a bumpy/clumsy/fun ride.”
The 17th series of the BBC dance show will return in the autumn.
Catherine will be joining former England goalkeeper David James, comedian Chris Ramsey, EastEnders star Emma Barton and YouTuber Saffron Barker who have already been confirmed for the 2019 series.
Other names will be announced over the coming weeks, but those who have been linked to the show include RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, TV presenter Fearne Cotton, comedian Alan Carr and former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley.
This series of Strictly Come Dancing will also see a number of changes.
Following the departure of Darcey Bussell, there will be a new judge on the panel in the form of Motsi Mabuse.
She is the sister of current Strictly pro Oti Mabuse, and will be sitting alongside Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.
As announced earlier this week, new dancer Nancy Xu will be joining the professional line-up for the new series.
Nancy is technically replacing Pasha Kovalev, who announced his decision to step down from the show earlier this year.
Elsewhere, Rylan Clark-Neal will also be joining Zoe Ball as a presenter on nightly spin-off series It Takes Two.
