Love Island’s Greg Leaves The Villa For A Day To Attend Grandmother’s Funeral

Greg O’Shea recently left the Love Island villa for a day in order to attend his grandmother’s funeral, it has been revealed.

The 24-year-old temporarily departed the Mallorca residence on Monday, flying back to Dublin to be with his family, before jetting back the same evening.

A spokesperson for the show explained (via the Sun): “Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral.

“Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa.”

Despite stepping away for the day, Greg will still appear in tonight’s episode, a Love Island spokesperson has confirmed to HuffPost UK.

Greg’s dad, Niall, told local radio station Limerick Live 95: “Greg is a very good family man and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well.”

Greg and Amber

This is the first time an Islander has been allowed to briefly return home midway through filming.

It was recently revealed contestants have one day off a week from being filmed, but on these occasions they are still under the watchful eye of ITV2 producers, who accompany them on trips to local beaches.

Late arrival Greg has proven to be a hit with fans, namely thanks to the fact he’s finally put a smile on Amber Gill’s face

There’s now less than a week to go until the 2019 series finale, which looks set to see Greg and Amber go up against couples including Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, and Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan, in the battle for £50,000.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
