Serena Williams crashed to a rapid defeat in the women’s singles final at Wimbledon as Simona Halep won her first Grand Slam on grass.
The Romanian beat Williams in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
For Williams, who is married to Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of the Reddit website, Saturday’s defeat is her third grand slam final loss since giving birth in September 2017.
Williams said: “She played out of her mind, it was a little bit deer in the headlights for me.”
Halep, 27, said: “It was my best match” after winning her second Grand Slam title following her 2018 French Open success.
During the tournament tennis superstar Williams spoke about how she has made sure she spent time with her daughter Olympia despite her busy playing schedule.
