A murder investigation is under way after a woman’s body was found in a garage.
The victim has not been formally identified but the family of a woman in her 50s reported missing on May 15 have been informed, Scotland Yard said.
Police were informed a body had been found in Prendergast Road in Blackheath, south-east London, on Friday evening.
“Although cause of death has not been determined, the woman who was sadly found deceased has injuries suggestive of third-party involvement,” detective chief inspector David Blair said.
A post-mortem on Sunday at Greenwich Mortuary was not able to establish cause of death.
Blair, who is leading the investigation, added: “At this stage we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death, which is being investigated as a murder.”
A crime scene remains in place.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0208 721 4961 or through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Scotland Yard’s directorate of professional standards has been informed as will the Independent Office of Police Conduct owing to the likelihood the victim is the woman reported missing in May.
