The future is female. Don’t believe me? Believe the Royals, then. Meghan and Harry have set out firm hopes for their baby boy, who was born on Monday 6 May, including that he will be a proud feminist.
Meghan, speaking at an event to celebrate International Women’s Day in March, said she could feel the “embryonic kicking of feminism” – and it doesn’t get more right on than that.
So, what can you do to nurture the future feminists in your life? Make whatever you buy them gender-neutral, for a start. Here are some kick-ass baby gift ideas.

‘This Is What A Feminist Looks Like’ Baby-Grow, Zazzle, £14.60
Baby girls – and boys – can make a stand against the patriarchy in this adorable white baby-grow. And it’s white, too, so ticks all the gender-neutral boxes (though let’s not forget that even feminists can wear pink).
Little Feminist Board Book Set, Amazon, £9.59
This super-cute board-book set will introduce a budding feminist to some of the greatest artists, pioneers, leaders and activists in history. And it’ll last – the brightly-coloured, illustrated tales of incredible women such as Rosa Parks, Cleopatra and Marie Curie can be read to babies, and when they get old enough, they can read them by themselves (though the pages might be a little well-chewed by then).
Tiny Feminist STEM Nursery Print Set, Etsy, £18.91
Each print is 10 inches high and 8 inches wide and celebrates STEM subjects – a significant battle to tackle, seeing as women are still vastly underrepresented in STEM occupations in the UK. This set of four prints is cute, as well as being inspirational, and will look just right in a new baby’s nursery. Win.
Boys Will Be ‘Good Humans’ Romper Suit, Etsy, £17.30
There’s nothing more tiresome than the saying “boys will be boys”. Luckily, you can point out that your new baby is set to be much, much more than a stereotype with this fierce black-and-white romper suit. Because boys will be feminists, activists and allies, too.
Feminist Baby Board Book, Amazon, £10.62
“Feminist Baby likes pink and blue, Sometimes she’ll throw up on you! Feminist Baby chooses what to wear, and if you don’t like it she doesn’t care!”
This brilliant board book features a little girl who’s not afraid to do her own thing, and wants to make as much noise as possible along the way. It was written by Loryn Brantz – there’s also a sequel (‘Feminist Baby Finds Her Voice!’).
feMINIst Baby T-Shirt, Zazzle, £14.15
Small enough that it can be given as a gift to a newborn (it comes in size 18m), this cute white tee puts the ‘mini’ in ‘feminist’.
It’s made of cotton and is soft enough for even the most sensitive skin. You can also order it in light blue, pink or heather grey.
Welcome, Baby! Mini Feminist Congratulations Card, Etsy, £3.94
It can be hard enough sometimes to find a baby congratulations card that isn’t a standard pink or blue. But this one really delivers. It’s a size A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″) and printed on heavyweight 100% cotton paper, and comes in a neon pink envelope. Just perfect for the feminist parents in your life.
Full-time Feminist Baby Bib, Shirtcity, £14.50
Designed by Sonar, the ‘Full-time Feminist’ Baby Bib in black and pink cotton is a marvel. Seriously, it is. Cool, unique and bad-ass. The only problem is: you won’t want baby to get it dirty.
Feminist Fabric, Charlotte Winter For Spoonflower, £25 (Per Metre)
If the parents of the new bundle of joy are good with a needle and thread, you won’t want to look any further than this feminist-print lightweight cotton twill fabric. Perfect to decorate a nursery: can be made into curtains, cushions or clothes. And it’s cool.
