Where Did Meghan Markle Give Birth? Here’s What We Know So Far

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared the news that they’d welcomed their son yesterday – but royal fans are still desperate for more information on the baby’s arrival.

While we know they had a boy who arrived at 5.26am, weighing 7lb 3oz on Monday 6 May, there’s been no confirmation on whether Meghan had the home birth rumours suggest she had hoped for – or gave birth in hospital.

Royal staff confirmed the news with a traditional message on an easel outside Buckingham Palace, which read: “The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526 today.” There was no mention of where she had her baby.

Speculation grew that Meghan might opt for a home birth after a statement by Buckingham Palace revealed the couple wanted to celebrate their baby’s birth privately as a family first.

She also chose her delivery team led by a female doctor – in a break with recent royal custom.

However, some sources report that Meghan ended up giving birth to her son in hospital. The Mail stated that she was taken to hospital on Sunday 5 May by Harry and their Scotland Yard security team – and senior royals were apparently not even told.

The reports suggest Meghan was taken to the Portland hospital, a private maternity unit on Great Portland Street in London – where Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were delivered.

It is not known if she was induced or not, despite being overdue.

Earlier reports of Meghan’s birth plan suggested it would be unlikely Meghan would travel to London to give birth in a private hospital. Instead, rumours circulated the Duchess of Sussex would give birth at the Mulberry Birth Centre at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.

Buckingham Palace is not confirming or denying any of these claims, according to Hello!, reiterating: “Details of the birth are private.”

The couple were at their home, Frogmore Cottage, with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, when Prince Harry announced the news of their son. The new dad called it “the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined,” adding: “How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.

“We’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there, it’s been amazing, so we just wanted to share this with everybody.”

Full details of Meghan’s birth should be included on the baby’s birth certificate, which is likely to be completed by the couple this week.
